The overall objective of YUNA – TZ is to promote the work of the United Nations and further its objectives among the young people in Tanzania. YUNA is a member based organization with more than 30,000 members; it manages more than 120 UN clubs and chapters in secondary schools, colleges and universities in Tanzania. Members range in age between 14 and 30 years old. YUNA’s areas of work include education on human rights, environment, and many others.
Project Description:
This project aimed to engage participants in the formulation, planning and implementation of local and national initiatives related to peace, security and human rights. The specific objectives of the project were to: Educate participants about peace, security and human rights; Facilitate the establishment of the youth networks and generally enhance partnership, information-sharing and cooperation among youth and other development partners; Facilitate the establishment of platforms for cross-cultural and interfaith dialogue among youth from different social, political and religious backgrounds; Create a culture of tolerance through which social, political or religious opinions, similarities and differences could be expressed, discussed and appreciated in peaceful ways. During the project, 20 youth national facilitators were recruited and trained; 500 participants were trained in the regions during the outreach; 10 Regional Youth Implementing Committees and youth networks were established; More than 8,000 people were reached through various means such as radio, television, calls, Facebook, twitter, e-mail groups, fliers and banners.
