Name of Organization:
FINSJOR – Young Girls Social Intervention Forum
Description of Organization:
FINSJOR is a social, secular, non-partisan and non-profit non-governmental organization that seeks to contribute to the development of Guinea-Bissau through sociocultural and community development interventions related to poverty reduction, unemployment, juvenile offending, health, and education. The organization’s delivery of training and capacity-building, particularly to the most vulnerable beneficiaries, encourages the active participation of young women and men.
Context:
Guinea-Bissau has recently been marked by several violent episodes. Ethnic discrimination and hatred among youth on social media networks has been gradually increasing since 2014. These incidents were further exacerbated by the events of the 2019 general elections, when incitement to ethnic and other prejudicial violence on social media significantly increased among young people who hid behind fake identities while sharing information motivated by ethnic hatred.
Proposed Project and Expected Results:
The project aims to increase awareness and knowledge of the root causes and effects of community conflicts and build the capacities of young people to communicate non-violently and participate in conflict resolution mechanisms that support nation-wide peacebuilding efforts. Training, dialogues, radio debates and campaigns are designed to engage young people and their communities in supporting peacebuilding efforts.
