Name of organization:
Name of organization: SAATH Nepal (Social service, Awareness Raising and Advocacy for Tranquility and Humanity)
Description of organization:
SAATH promotes social justice, socio-economic change, human rights and peace through the establishment of professional social work, best practice models and youth leadership. The idea of SAATH started in 2006, when eleven students with educational background in social work started a small project to support women and children living with HIV & AIDS. The success of the project motivated these students to continue working for social change, with youth-based projects in issues related to marginalized communities in Nepal.
Project description/context:
Nepal has experienced a decade long civil war and the ensuing devastation. SAATH understood that to establish sustainable peace in the nation, it is highly important to understand and cater to the socio-political needs of youth. The “SAATH Dialogue, Debate and Discussion for Youth Leadership” project empowers young leaders throughout rural Nepal to take positive action for individual and social change. Project activities have been developed as a workshop model with three primary components: 3Ds (Dialogue, Debates and Discussion); role play and drama, and short films and documentary shows.
Expected results:
By the end of the project, SAATH Nepal expects to:
- Organize youth leadership programs in 6 different districts of rural Nepal (Dhading, Janakpur, Kathmandu, Kaski, Kavre and Sindupalchowk).
- Host 5-day workshops based on dialogue, debates and discussion in each district. The workshop will also disseminate learning through visual information by showing and involving participants in drama/role-play and screening of short films/documentaries.
- Train 30 youth (15 male and 15 female) in each district, 180 in total from 6 different districts.
