Name of organization:
Centre for Communication and Development (CCD)
Description of organization:
CCD is a non-government youth-led organization, established in 1999 and based in the northern region of Bangladesh. Operating as a communication and journalism resource center, the organization aims to create a climate ensuring human rights and equitable development for all.
Project description/context:
The “Raising Interfaith Youth Voices through Community Radio” project addresses the growing tension between Muslim, Hindu, Christian, and other minority groups in Bangladesh, as defined by CCD. This is done through identifying young leaders of different faiths, encouraging them to network, build partnerships and promote understanding among the groups, and providing them with skills-based training to develop their own community radio programs. This project aims to have a greater impact in the society by reaching out to community at large.
Expected results:
By the end of the project, CCD expects to:
- Identify 60 members from all different religions for the Interfaith Youth Forum who will receive orientation sessions on social, religious and civic issues, as well as training on radio journalism, reporting and production;
- Facilitate Interfaith Youth Forum members to arrange six seminars in the Rajshahi and Chapai Nawabgonj districts with attendance by 300 young people of different religions; and
- Assist Interfaith Youth Forum members with producing a series of programs and reports related to youth and interfaith issues that will be broadcast on community radio stations in the Rajshahi and Chapai Nawabgonj districts, promoting religious friendship, mutual respect and tolerance among youth.
