Name of organization:
Inspiring Development (InDev)
Description of organization:
Inspiring Development (InDev) aims at strengthening the capacity of community groups, NGOs, governments and education institutions through training, research and consultancy for better quality of services.
Project description/context:
In the last three decades, multi-layered violent conflicts involving groups from various cultures, religions, and economic backgrounds have erupted in Aceh, Maluku, North Maluku, West Papua, West Kalimantan, and Central Sulawesi of Indonesia. In these post-conflict contexts, violence involving youth has broken out repeatedly in the last five years in universities of these provinces. InDev recognizes youth, who make up one fifth of Indonesia’s 242 million inhabitants, as a potential for peace as well as vulnerable to violence. Their project focuses on reducing violent conflict and promoting safety in select universities, creating a network of student leaders and developing a model for student-led peacebuilding projects that can be replicated as a regular program in other targeted universities that are very prone to violent conflict.
Expected results:
By the end of the project, inDev expects to:
- Sign agreement to implement project with seven universities of post-conflict and prone-to-conflict provinces– Aceh, Maluku, North Maluku, Central Sulawesi, West Papua, West Sulawesi and East Nusa Tenggara.
- With experiential learning pedagogy, offer 210 students of these universities the skills to conduct in-depth and multi-angled analysis of their conflict, as well as skills in facilitating dialogue, negotiation and mediation.
- Raise the awareness of the youth about the importance of addressing conflict constructively and build their capacity to be actively involved in transforming conflict within the university and their communities through peace and non-adversary approaches
