The two National Focal Points Meetings are platforms organized in the context of the UN Global Programme on Security of Major Sporting Events, and Promotion of Sport and its Values as a Tool to Prevent Violent Extremism by the UNOCT, UNAOC, UNICRI and ICSS. The meetings provide an opportunity to present the key features and deliverables of the UN Global Sports Programme (Handbook, Guides, Communication campaign and an App), and to develop valuable engagement on ongoing activities. The meetings will be divided into two- PVE through Sport Values and Security of Major Sporting Events. The NFP nominated within the Security of Major Sporting Events workstream will meet on the 15th December 2020 from 9.30 AM until 12.30 PM (New York Time) while the NFPs working on PVE through sport values will meet on the 10th December 2020 same time.
The National Focal Points play a critical role in the successful implementation of the UN Global Sport Programme to ensure national vision, priorities and specific needs are duly considered. The NFPs will help advise and shape the development, dissemination and implementation of technical assistance provided by UNOCT and its partners by sharing good practices, information, expertise, and experience. The partners will seek their advice to better provide policy and practice level technical assistance aiming at strengthened preparedness and capacity in the field of major sporting events security and better integrate sport values-based initiatives within national and regional action plans for PVE.
