What:
The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) is organizing a symposium on the topic of hate speech against migrants and refugees in the media on 13 December 2017 in Cairo, Egypt, in collaboration with Egypt Media Development Program (EMDP).
Organized in the framework of UNAOC’s #SpreadNoHate initiative, this symposium meeting is the fifth of the series and will shed light on the various dimensions and experiences of migration within the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, their media coverage, and lessons learned by journalists from the region.
UNAOC invited a group of 80 carefully selected participants. Particular emphasis was placed on engaging journalists working in the MENA region. The #SpreadNoHate Symposium will also include migrants and refugees, representatives of international organizations, representatives of think-tanks, the private sector, academia, and civil society.
