“Covering migration: challenges met and unmet – a look at Switzerland”

The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) will be hosting a one day seminar for 25 Switzerland-based journalists on May 16, 2013 in Bern, Switzerland, around the topic: “Covering migration: challenges met and unmet – a look at Switzerland” .
Convening some of the most recognized experts on migration, the seminar will cover the following: migration and minority communities portrayed in the media, main challenges faced by media professionals when covering the issue of migration. It will also provide journalists with background on migration: facts, figures, trends, demographic projections. Using existing guidelines, participants will discuss how best these guidelines apply to the media coverage of migration.
The seminar will be held both in French and German with simultaneous interpretation. Some speakers may also conduct their presentation in English.
The cost of transportation to and from the conference will be covered. Hotel accommodation will be provided for those living more than two hours away from Bern.
Additional information on the seminar will be posted on the UNAOC website in the coming weeks and communicated to the selected candidates.
