The UNAOC partners as an outreach organization with Locating the Sacred Festival. Organized by the Asian American Arts Alliance, the two-week citywide art event has brought together hundreds of artists, arts workers and cultural activists to create twenty-five events in churches, museums, cultural centers, botanical gardens and theaters across all five boroughs of New York City, exploring the meaning of the word “sacred” and its relevance in our communities.
From Chang-Jin Lee’s giant inflatable Buddha installation on the East River to Dana Leong’s sundown concert in the Skyroom at the New Museum; from a Sufi Qawwali performance at the magnificent Church of the Ascension to a Dance Flash Mob in Washington Square Park; the Festival showcases Asian American artists as agents of change, demonstrating the power of art to unleash imagination and break down barriers.
Locating the Sacred Festival will run from 12th to 23rd September, with events all over New York City.
