New York, 13 February 2024 – The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) is pleased to support the International Dialogue of Civilizations & Tolerance (IDCT) Conference, which will take place 20–22 February 2024 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The event is organized by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence and the Emirates Scholar Research Center.
Under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence of UAE, the event will bring together participants from governments, the academia, multilateral organizations, and other stakeholders to discuss fundamental themes at the heart of the Dialogue of Civilizations.
Mr. Miguel Ángel Moratinos, Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, will address the high-level Opening Ceremony, focusing on the topic, “Global Efforts in Promoting Tolerance and Coexistence”.
The IDCT Conference aims to promote collaboration between civilizations and deepen understanding of the multifaceted aspects involved in meaningful cross-cultural dialogue as well as the complexities inherent in such discourse, particularly related to values and norms, from a scholarly perspective.
Experts, academics, and enthusiasts will discuss scientific issues linked to enhancing the values of tolerance and coexistence and their impact on communication with the culturally, racially, socially, and religiously diverse “other” during keynote speeches and panel discussions. Throughout the three-day event, various sessions will explore themes such as leadership perspectives on tolerance; global perspectives on peace and development; education as well as sustainable development and international relations.
Further, the event will provide a global platform to exchange scientific experiences; draw lessons from history; reflect on the role of culture and cultural transformation in enhancing coexistence and cultural diversity in contemporary societies; highlight the importance of understanding and respecting cultural differences and investing in community development; and, emphasize the significance of dialogue between civilizations to promote tolerance and mutual understanding.
