Deadline extended: 20 November 2023
The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) is launching a call for applications for the 2024 edition of its Young Peacebuilders programme, which will again focus on Latin America and the Caribbean. Applications are invited from people aged 18–25 years from the region who are enthusiastic about making a tangible impact on their communities by fostering understanding and collaboration across diverse cultures and religions.
UNAOC will select 20 young civil society leaders to participate in this capacity-building programme, consisting of interactive online sessions, a week-long face-to-face workshop, and the guided implementation of peace initiatives in their respective communities with the support and mentorship of UNAOC trainers. The 20 young peacebuilders selected for the programme will learn about conflict mediation, intercultural and interfaith dialogue, media and information literacy, project management, and other subjects while developing their debating and social and emotional skills.
At the end of their learning journey, participants will be provided a platform to share their experiences, achievements, lessons learned, and recommendations with a broader audience of practitioners, UN, policymakers, media entities, and civil society representatives, allowing them to expand awareness of their initiatives toward promoting diversity and mutual understanding.
Implemented with the generous support of the Agencia Extremeña de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AEXCID), the UNAOC Young Peacebuilders supports young leaders to build more inclusive and peaceful societies by countering stereotypes, prejudice, and polarization, and
prepares them for a seat at the decision-making table.
