Media Advisory: 2021 Intercultural Innovation Award Ceremony

WHAT:
The 2021 Intercultural Innovation Award Ceremony, a celebration of innovative grassroots projects that encourage intercultural dialogue around the world, will take place on 18 November, 6:00pm Dubai time (GMT+4), as part of the themed week on Tolerance and Inclusivity at this year’s Expo 2020 in Dubai.
Following a competitive selection process with over 1,100 applications received from 120 countries, ten finalists will be jointly announced by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and BMW Group.

WHY:
Since 2011, the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the BMW Group have been bestowing the Intercultural Innovation Award (IIA) to projects around the world that promote intercultural understanding and diverse, inclusive societies. Since its inception, a total of 61 award-winning organizations have been able to reach more than five million people worldwide with their projects. WHO:
The Ceremony will be chaired by Mr. Miguel Moratinos, Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, and Ms. Ilka Horstmeier, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Human Resources, Labour Relations Director.
The spotlight will be on ten representatives of ten organizations comprising this year’s cohort of Intercultural Innovation Award recipients. The top ten winning organizations and their projects will be revealed during the Ceremony. Stay tuned.
