As we recently launched the communication campaign #forsafeworship, the UN Plan of Action For Safeguarding Religious Sites calls for fostering compassion and mutual respect for all people as well as protecting the freedom of religion and belief including the right to free and safe worship across the faith spectrum.
The Plan provides an important and mutually reinforcing new tools to combat intolerance and stereotyping and promote diversity and inclusiveness.
Stigmatization and vilification targeting certain communities based on their religion or belief is an affront to Article 18 of the Universal Human Rights. Such policies lead to sowing divisions and hatred within our societies.
