The High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser expresses his deep concern over the fate of 230 schoolgirls abducted from their school hostel by Boko Haram militants in Nigeria.
The High Representative stressed that such criminal attacks on children, young boys and girls and targeting of schools are prohibited under International law and cannot be justified nor tolerated by any faith, culture or background.
Mr. Al-Nasser is appalled by such acts of violence and senseless attacks on schools, students and teachers perpetrated by the extremist group Boko Haram. He stressed that Education is an essential and indispensable pillar of the Alliance of Civilizations’ mission and an integral part of human advancement.
The High Representative re-iterated that the perpetrators of such crimes should be brought to justice and urged the International community to exert all possible efforts to recover the abducted girls and return them home safely to their families.
