Statement by the High Representative
for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC)
On the launch of the Global Guidelines to Counter Antisemitism
Buenos Aires – Argentina, 17 July, 2024
In my capacity as the United Nations Focal Point designated to Monitor Antisemitism and Enhance a System-Wide Response, I take note of the Global Guidelines for Countering Antisemitism launched today in Buenos Aires, Argentina on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the terrorist attack targeting the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA). I also acknowledge the efforts of the Special Envoys and Coordinators Combating Antisemitism (SECCA) who collaborated together in the preparation of the guidelines.
I fully recognize the alarming rise in antisemitism around the world over the last several months. There is a sense of urgency to take action.
Antisemitism should be condemned – unequivocally – whenever and wherever we encounter it. We must equally condemn all other forms of racism, prejudice and religious bigotry. The demonization of one group will eventually lead to the demonization of other groups. These vile acts are a violation of everything the United Nations stands for.
I remain committed to continue to speak out and stand up against the pernicious forces of discrimination, racism and hate and to working with you all to enhance global efforts to address antisemitism.
