UNAOC High-level Group of Friends Meeting, followed by Youth Webinar and Interactive Panel Discussion on Racism
MEDIA ADVISORY: UNAOC high-level events on the margins of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly
Tuesday 29 September 2020
WHAT:
On the margins of the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) will hold its annual high-level meeting of its Group of Friends on the theme, “Shaping a Better World: Building Cohesive and Inclusive Societies in a Challenging COVID-19 Environment”. The meeting will be followed by a Youth Webinar (“An Intergenerational Conversation: The Future They Want”) featuring UNAOC programme alumni in conversation with senior officials, and an interactive discussion on “Racism, Xenophobia and Discrimination: The Tearing of Our Societies”.
WHY:
As we mark the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, UNAOC is also celebrating its 15th year since its inception. The annual high-level meeting of the UNAOC Group of Friends will be an opportunity to take stock of its accomplishments and present new activities and initiatives, particularly in the areas of prevention and mediation. The two subsequent interactive panels will highlight the work of UNAOC programme alumni and provide an opportunity to discuss pressing social issues related to the mandate of UNAOC.
