Madrid, Spain – 20 March 2019 — The High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), Mr. Miguel Ángel Moratinos, received the League of Arab States Award during a ceremony in Madrid, Spain, in recognition for his contribution to strengthening Arab-Spanish relations through dialogue.
The award was presented to Mr. Moratinos by the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit. The ceremony was attended by Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Mr. Fernando Valenzuela, who said that Spain trusts well that Mr. Moratinos in his capacity as High Representative for UNAOC will meet everyone’s expectations. Ambassadors to Arab countries and heads of international organizations were also present at the ceremony.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Moratinos, who assumed his post as High Representative for UNAOC in January 2019, said that the Arab World plays a crucial role in his renewed vision for UNAOC. He presented his new vision and his plan to strengthen the Arab-European dialogue.
