The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and Fundación Onuart kicked-off “The Silk Road Concert” at the Palais des Nations in the Human Rights and Alliance of Civilizations Chamber, on 14 October 2017.
A true encounter between East and West, “The Silk Road Concert” brought together the Symphonic Orchestra of the Balearic Islands directed by Maestro Pablo Mielgo, with eight distinguished artists from Silk Road countries, namely Ms. Bing Bing Wang (Soprano, China , Mr. Burak Bilgili (Bass, Turkey), Ms. Fatma Said (Soprano, Egypt), Ms. Huiling Zhu (Mezzo, China), Mr. ladimir Galouzine (Tenor, Russia ), Mr. Warren Mok (Tenor, China), Ms.Yuan Gao (Soprano, China) and the violinist Ms. Yasmine Azaiez (Tunisia).
While offering a musical journey through the Silk Road – possibly the most mythical route of antiquity – “The Silk Road Concert” sets out to use music as an instrument to foster intercultural dialogue, understanding, and rapprochement between nations and cultures.
The musical performance was preceded by remarks by Olga Algayerovam Executive Secretary of UNECE, Joaquín Alexander Maza Martelli, President of the UN Human Rights Council, Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), and Miguel Ángel Moratinos, President of Fundación Onuart.
