Baku, 3 May 2017 — The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) in partnership with The Government of Azerbaijan, UNESCO, UNWTO, FAO, the Council of Europe and ISESCO will host the 4th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue to be held on 5-6 May in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Participants at the level of heads of government, ministers, senior representatives of the United Nations, government officials, representatives of non-governmental organizations and International Organizations will get together to discuss ways forward to build societies based on equal opportunities as well as an inclusive framework of tolerance and respect for diversity under the general theme “Advancing Intercultural Dialogue: New Avenues for Human Security, Peace and Sustainable Development”.
Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, the High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, will deliver remarks at the opening ceremony. UNAOC will also organize a plenary session on “Promoting Dialogue and Building Bridges as a Tool to Preventing Violent Extremism” and two break-out sessions titled “Promoting Innovative Approaches to Foster Intercultural Dialogue” and “Inclusive Dialogue in an Age of Polarization: How to Make it Work?”. Furthermore, the Forum will feature a presentation of the publication “Opportunities for Media and Information Literacy in the Middle East and North Africa”, co-authored by UNAOC.
By placing intercultural dialogue and cultural diversity higher on the international agenda the World Forums organized so far have became a global platform to raising awareness and shaping a global strategy for intercultural dialogue worldwide.
