The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) together with the Coventry University’s Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations (CTPSR) has launched a call for applications for two three-year PhD studentships.
Coventry University is offering two full-time PhD studentships as part of their collaboration with the UNAOC. Research proposals are invited for PhD projects which explore areas and issues consistent with the vision and mission of the UNAOC. This call for applications is part of the continuing development and expansion of research activity in the area of intercultural dialogue and the role it plays in promoting (or inhibiting) social solidarity, trust and peaceful relations in diverse and changing societies.
This is the first joint PhD studentship between the two organisations and part of the on-going partnership activities between UNAOC and CTPSR, a relationship which was first initialised by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and the announcement by HE Mr Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, the High Representative for UNAOC at the 7th UNAOC Global Forum in April 2016.
“We are very pleased with our partnership with CTPSR and particularly this initiative geared towards promoting intercultural dialogue, which we see as an essential tool to prevent and defeat violent and extremist ideologies,” says Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser the High Representative for UNAOC.
“This is a really exciting opportunity for UNAOC, with CTPSR as its partner, to look for new, interesting relationships within, and new evidence about, the role that dialogue might have within an increasingly diverse and connected world. We assume that dialogue between cultures is a pre-requisite for peace, but this needs to be challenged and explored. There are few better ways of doing this that through the active minds of enquiring students,” Director of CTPSR, Professor Mike Hardy.
