The High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, H.E Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser held talks in Ankara on Monday with H.E Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Prime Minister of Turkey. The talks covered a wide range of issues relevant to the agenda of the Alliance and Turkey’s role in its work.
The High Representative reviewed with Mr. Erdogan the vision and priorities he defined during his leadership of the Alliance and which was endorsed by the AoC Group of Friends.
On his part, Prime Minister Erdogan pledged his Government’s support for Mr. Al Nasser’s vision and expressed his willingness to assist in its implementation .
The talks also tackled the latest developments in the Middle East region including the upcoming meeting on Syria to be held in Geneva in June, as well as the Palestinian issue. Mr. Erdogan informed Mr. Al-Nasser about his scheduled visit to the Palestinian territories next month.
During the talks, Prime Minister Erdogan stressed that the role of the Alliance is even more crucial now than ever before given the complex developments the region is now going through.
While in Turkey, and at the invitation of Dr. Bekir Karliga, Senior Advisor to Turkey’s Prime Minister, the UN High Representative gave a lecture at the Alliance of Civilizations Institute at the Fatih Sultan Mehmet University and had an interactive discussion with the post graduate students there.
