The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to invite you to participate in a panel titled “The Inclusive City: Management of Diversity at the Local Level.”
On October 1, 2012, as part of General Assembly week, we will host a panel with high-level experts from UN Habitat, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), UNESCO, and IFRC. These experts will answer questions from grassroots initiatives about migration and integration to highlight multiple perspectives on these issues. The panel will also feature the presentation of an example of a good practice by the Italian Foundation “Cassa di Risparmio di Torino.”
As this event will take place at UN Headquarters in New York and will be broadcast on UNTV, the UNAOC invites your initiative to submit a question.
In an era of unprecedented mobility, migration and the resulting growth in cultural and ethnic diversity have become key topics of debate on a global but also a local level. Organizations from international to civil society are dialoging on how to address the issue of integration at the city level, ensuring that communities are establishing the right initiatives to support the successful integration of migrants into host societies. The October 1st panel will address this specific issue, encouraging local initiatives to ask engaging questions and interact with high-level experts on how to best build inclusive cities.
To get involved, please submit a question to Anne Grobet, Migration Program Manager, at anneg@unops.org by September 17. The top 7 questions will be selected by September 19 to be recorded and broadcast at the event via UNTV. Participants submitting questions must fulfill the following criteria:
- Pose a question about integration dilemmas in cities or on how to foster inclusiveness
- Submit a question that is no longer than one minute long when recorded
- Be willing to have question recorded via Skype or record it themselves
- Be from a local or grassroots initiative
“The Inclusive City” panel gives local initiatives access to high-level, international experts and the unique opportunity to interact with them about major issues in the migration field. We look forward to receiving your questions!
