According to the ELDIA (European Language Diversity for All) research project the current policies and initiatives on minority languages and language learning are in need of an update in order to meet the rapidly changing linguistic landscape.
The current policies are based on outdated information and not according to the new forms of communication, mobility and education and neglects to take in to account the new ideas of multilingualism and multiculturalism. A more updated approach would, according to the research findings, ensure more effective, targeted support to minority language speakers, no matter which ethnic group they belong to.
