From February 24-26,2012, the Guerrand-Hermès Foundation for Peace (GHFP) and the UN Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) convened a symposium on “Religion, Spirituality and Education for Human Flourishing,” in Marrakesh, Morocco. A report and recommendations from the symposium is now available on the website of the Education about Religions and Beliefs (ERB) project.
At the symposium, the UN Alliance of Civilizations was represented by Director Marc Scheuer. Mr. Scheuer said, “I was very impressed with the substantive nature of the symposium. We are grateful to the Guerrand-Hermès Foundation for Peace (GHFP) for taking the lead on organizing this symposium with our ERB project. We look forward to more such activities with our partners.”
The symposium drew a diverse group of academics, faith leaders, representatives of interfaith groups and non-governmental organizations. Participants discussed a conceptual framework for understanding religion; spirituality and education for human flourishing; and were exposed to a few promising practices in religious education. They also issued recommendations for pedagogy and curriculum of religious education in schools. More details are available in the report. [PDF]
