UNAOC’s Research and Education Manager, Dr. Thomas Uthup, was among the panelists invited to participate in a discussion September 21 on “The Next 10 Years,” organized by the Committee of Religious NGOs at the United Nations.
The event was held in the context of the UN International Day of Peace and held in partnership with the Office of the Chaplain of the Church Center for the United Nations.
Preceding the discussion, a moment of sacred observance of the International Day of Peace was observed, and participants offered up their hopes and visions for peace among leaders, nations, peoples and religions of the world.
The panel discussion, held in the context of the High Level Panel on the Durban Declaration, the 10th anniversary of 9/11, and the opening of the General Assembly, focused on the steps necessary to move beyond a Culture of Violence to a Culture of Peace and Justice. Other panelists included Ambassador Ahmad Kamal of Pakistan, UNITAR, and Christopher Dekki and Maya Saoud, International Movement of Catholic Students–Pax Romana.
