According to data published by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, UNAOC Research Network partner University of Birmingham is among the top 12 universities in the country. A Daily Telegraph article discussed the implications of this for the government’s higher education proposals.
This “Ivy League” of English institutions include Manchester, Durham, Oxford, Cambridge, Nottingham, Leeds, Exeter, Bristol, Warwick, Sheffield and Southampton. These institutions attract almost half of the brightest students in the country, with the rest being shared with all the other higher education institutions in the country.
In a subject relevant to the Alliance’s interests in the conflict area, the University’s College of Social Science, School of Government and Society Department of Political Science and International Studies and Civil War Journal held a conference on New Perspectives on Conflict and Security: Understanding Civil War and IntraState Conflict, 11-12 July 2011. The keynote address on “The Religious Wave: Religion and Civil War 1960 to 2009” was given by Jonathan Fox, from UNAOC Research Network partner Bar-Ilan University.
