President Jorge Sampaio, High Representative of the UN Alliance of Civilizations, emphasized the benefit of diversity during his opening address to the June 1-4, 2011 conference on the Christian-Jewish-Islamic dialogue in Gödöllő. The conference was organized by the Hungarian government as part of its Presidency of the Council of the European Union. UNAOC Director Marc Scheuer also spoke at the opening of the conference.
In addition to representatives of EU members, delegations from Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ukraine, Russia, Israel, the United States and some Middle East states participated in the Conference. The conference discussed the current state of the Christian-Jewish-Muslim interfaith dialogue, the relationship between Church and State, religious freedom in the EU and the question of Muslim migration.
