During his visit to Madrid on 14 and 15 February, President Sampaio held bilateral consultations with the President of Government of Spain, Mr. José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, and with Ms. Jimenez Trinidad, the recently appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs. He also met with Secretary of State for External Affairs, Ambassador Ianez Barnuevo, who was the former Permanent Representative for Spain to the UN. Further to these bilateral meetings, President Sampaio also met with the Secretary-General of SEGIB, Enrique Iglesias. They examined progress achieved in the preparation of the UNAOC Regional Strategy for Latin-America. A meeting was also held with the Secretary General of UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Mr. Taleb Rifai, aimed at initiating the UNWTO in the UNAOC’s Group of Friends, and to discuss some lines of future cooperation between the two organizations of the UN familiy.
