The concert which pays tribute to the Mediterranean region is the first of a series of annual concerts that aim to promote intercultural dialogue and understanding among civilizations.

The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the Fundación Onuart and will kick off July 9th, The Mediterranean Concert at the Chamber of the Alliance of Civilizations & Human Rights at UNHQ in Geneva. The concert which pays tribute to the Mediterranean region is the first of a series of annual concerts that aim to promote intercultural dialogue and understanding among civilizations.
The Concert themed “Encounter of the Mediterranean Cultures”, is an homage to the richness of the Mediterranean culture and the diversity it brings with it. The initiative aims at reminding the world that the Mediterranean has been and will always be a flourishing civilization despite the conflicts that at times held this region back.
Several Mediterranean countries have collaborated in sponsoring this concert, particularly The Kingdom of Morocco and Egypt. Former President of the Spanish Government, Mr. Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasana, from the Kingdom of Morocco will inaugurate the concert with keynote addresses.
The Fundación Onuart attaches a special value to the role of Art and the International Organizations, “We promote cultural projects at International Institutions in Geneva as a way to promote peace and a better understanding among civilizations, thus, giving birth to new initiatives with positive impact on the countries”, says Mr. Miguel Angel Moratinos, President of Fundacion Onuart.
The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations is proud of its collaboration with Fundacion Onuart in this initiative emanating from its belief that all forms of human expressions can transcend cultural barriers, “ this concert is a testimony to the power of music to break down cultural barriers and build bridges of understanding among diverse cultures” says Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, the High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations.
A slew of renown artists from Morocco, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Spain, Greece, France, Palestine, Malta, Italy, Tunis and Cyprus will be performing . The concert provides an excellent way to voice loudly the positive impact of the culture of this region. The Concert will be broadcast by the Mediapro Group to all Mediterranean Countries.
Following the concert, The Kingdom of Morocco will host a special Gala Dinner that will be attended by prominent figures from the political, diplomatic, social and media circles.
The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and Onuart Fundacion have agreed to organize a concert every year in a different Mediterranean city.
Guided by the principles of the UN Charter , The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) established in 2005 as the political initiative of the UN Secretary- General, works towards promoting peaceful and more inclusive societies. UNAOC seeks to address the root causes and drivers of violent extremism . Since its inception, UNAOC has become one of the UN global platforms for intercultural dialogue, understanding and cooperation.
Onuart Fundacion was established in 2007 by major Spanish companies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain with the objective of promoting closer ties between contemporary art and the international organizations.
