Statement Attributable to the Spokesperson for the High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations

The High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser and Mr. Graziano da Silva , Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) signed today at FAO office in New York, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UNAOC and FAO. By virtue of this MoU, both parties agree to collaborate through joint initiatives and projects to promote cross cultural understanding among countries, peoples and communities towards food security, improved nutrition, poverty alleviation and economic growth.
They both agreed that food security is essential for the peace and stability in the various communities. Based on the idea that through food, we learn to know and appreciate diversity, they stressed their commitment to working together to increase public awareness on the intermingling of food systems on a global scale as a bridge for cultural and commercial exchanges between diverse cultures.
The signing of the MOU between UNAOC and FAO coincides with the launch of the International Family Farming at the ECOSOC today in which Mr. Al Nasser took part.
