Statement Attributable to the Spokesperson for the High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations
New York, 9 July 2013
On behalf of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), I would like to convey my sincere wishes to all Muslims and Nations around the world at the start of the Holy month of Ramadan.
For Muslims, Ramadan is a time not only for fasting and praying, but also for reflecting upon the wisdom and guidance that comes with faith. So as we observe Ramadan, let us also remember in our prayers the millions around the world suffering from deprivation, occupation and all forms of violence, persecution and suppression.
Indeed, it is the time when Muslims support each other and help those in need. These rituals remind us of the principles and values that we hold in common and the commitment to justice, equality and tolerance shared by all faiths. This is an imperative objective for the Alliance as well.
This holy month is a celebration of a faith known for its great diversity, so I wish all Muslims across the globe a blessed month.
